“I’m Playing on Such a High Level”: Aryna Sabalenka Will ‘Fight for Every Point’ vs Coco Gauff in Madrid Open 2025 Final

Gauff leads the head to head 5-4 vs Sabalenka.

Aryna Sabalenka is into yet another Mutua Madrid Open final, where she will take on a familiar foe in Coco Gauff on Saturday. The Belarusian is currently in the form of her life and is set to feature in her sixth final of the season. Ahead of her summit clash, Sabalenka has declared that she is prepared to leave it all on the court during the 2025 Madrid Open final. Can she prevent Gauff from winning her first title of the year?

Sabalenka earned the title of World No. 1 at the end of 2023. Having relinquished the tag to Iga Swiatek, she reclaimed the top ranking on the women’s circuit. She has now reached four finals in a row – at Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart and Madrid. On the other hand, Coco Gauff has regained lost form at the Spanish capital. If she wins the trophy over the weekend, the 21-year-old American will jump to No. 2 in the world.

Sabalenka Prepared to Win Third Madrid Open Title

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3 7-5 in her semifinal encounter. It was a polished performance from the Belarusian top seed, resulting in a head-to-head improvement to 5-1. Earlier that day, Coco Gauff had pulled off an epic upset over reigning Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek in the first semifinal. The two finalists have faced each other in some iconic matches over the years.

“We had a lot of great battles against each other,” Sabalenka said ahead of the clash. “Very tough ones, very close ones. I’ll just go out there and fight for every point. That’s the best preparation you can have for someone like Coco [Gauff].” The World No. 1 was also asked about reaching four straight finals, and whether she is in the form of her life.

“Honestly, I wasn’t even thinking about that. But that sounds crazy. I’m just super grateful for every opportunity I have, and honestly that’s just crazy that I’m playing on such a high level. Just wow!”
