Who is Coaching Iga Swiatek at the WTA Cincinnati Open 2025 Final?

Sankalp Harikrishnan

The Pole is set to face Paolini in a rematch of the 2024 Roland Garros final.

For the first time in her career, World No. 3 Iga Swiatek is through to the final of the WTA-1000 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The six-time Grand Slam champion is set to face Italian sensation Jasmine Paolini in the summit clash on Monday. Paolini is a major champion and Olympic gold medalist in doubles, and reached two singles Grand Slam finals in 2024. As a result, the Pole will have her work cut out if she wants to lift the Cincinnati crown.

It has been an excellent week for Swiatek, who is yet to drop a set in Cincinnati. The former World No. 1 thrashed Anastasia Potapova in the Round of 64, before Marta Kostyuk’s withdrawal ensured smooth sailing into the pre-quarterfinals. Comfortable wins over Sorana Cirstea and Anna Kalinskaya meant that the 24-year-old booked a blockbuster match-up vs Elena Rybakina in the semis. Here, Swiatek overcame an opening set deficit to emerge victorious 7-5 6-3.

Iga Swiatek Coach for the 2025 Cincinnati Open Final

Wim Fissette will be coaching Iga Swiatek at the 2025 Cincinnati Open final. The Belgian tennis coach joined Swiatek’s team in October 2024.

Swiatek and Fissette began their partnership ahead of the 2024 WTA Finals in Riyadh. “I’m happy to announce that Wim Fissette is joining our team,” the Pole posted on social media last year. “I said many times that my career is a marathon for me, not a sprint. I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach.”

The first person Swiatek thanked after capturing her maiden title at the Wimbledon Championships in July, was Fissette. The 45-year-old former professional player has previously worked with Grand Slam champions such as Kim Clijsters, Simone Halep, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka. Fisette will join the rest of Swiatek’s team – Daria Abramowicz (psychologist), Maciej Ryszczuk (physio) and Jules Mercier (agent) in the box.

What’s at Stake for Iga Swiatek in the Cincinnati Open Final?

Swiatek currently has a 5-0 record against Paolini, and will look to maintain her 100% success rate on Monday. Provided the Wimbledon champion can break down the Italian’s game and call the shots, she will rise to No. 2 in the world. This will guarantee her a Top-2 seeding at the US Open, meaning that she will avoid some major threats until the latter stages of the tournament.

The Pole is also bidding to win a maiden Cincinnati Open title. It will be a massive step in her quest for the year-end No. 1 ranking, for which Aryna Sabalenka is the current favourite. While she is set to contest her 13th WTA-1000 final on Monday, Paolini is into just her 3rd final at the same level. A 24th career singles title, and first on the WTA circuit in over a year, could be loading at the American town.
