The Eubank family stands among boxing’s most renowned dynasties. Chris Eubank Sr. was a dominant force in the 90s middleweight division. His eccentric personality made him unforgettable. His son, Chris Eubank Jr., followed in his footsteps. Junior inherited his father’s talent and some of his flair. But the relationship between father and son has often been complicated and public.

The Eubank-Benn rivalry is boxing‘s greatest family feud. It began in the early 90’s when Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn fought twice. Their first bout ended with Eubank knocking out Benn to win the WBO middleweight title. The rematch at Old Trafford was a draw. These battles captured the imagination of British sports fans. They were more than fights. They were cultural events that divided the nation. Now, a new chapter in this rivalry was supposed to unfold with Chris Eubank Jr. facing Conor Benn, Nigel Benn’s son. Their first scheduled bout in 2022 fell apart when Benn failed a drug test (he said that it was due to overconsumption of eggs). The rematch is now set for April 26, 2025. During a recent face-off to promote their upcoming fight, Chris Eubank Jr. did something that shocked boxing fans. He smashed an egg on Conor Benn’s face. This stunt went viral on social media. Fight promoters even used it in their marketing. While some fans found it entertaining, one person was definitely not amused: his father. Chris Eubank Sr. publicly disowned his son’s behavior in a scathing rebuke.

“Junior, you are smashing an egg against this guy’s face. I taught you that? I did not teach you that. Who taught you that? Did Karen teach you that? That’s disgraceful! Those are harsh words from father to son. The elder Eubank views boxing as “the noble art” that deserves respect. Junior’s egg-smashing stunt violated his father’s code of honor. It’s worth noting that this confrontation comes after the Eubank family suffered a terrible tragedy in 2021 when Sebastian Eubank, Chris Sr.’s son and Chris Jr.’s brother, died suddenly.

Chris Eubank Sr. Past Trauma Playing Out In His Son’s Fight

The father’s concerns go beyond mere conduct. He is worried about the fight itself. Weight differences between the two fighters could create dangerous conditions in the ring. The bout between his son and Conor Benn is set at middleweight (160 lbs). Benn is climbing 2 weight divisions, from welterweight (147 lbs) to face Eubank Jr., who is a natural middleweight and has also fought at super middleweight. So he will have the advantage of being the bigger fighter.
