There have been quite a few talking points about the 2024 NFL season. One of those right at the top of most discussions is the extraordinary season Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley has had. Barkley, who just joined Philadelphia this past offseason, took his game to a whole new level.
Despite being one of the top players in his position since he entered the league, he felt undervalued and unappreciated by his former team – the New York Giants. After holding out from contract signing for most of the 2023 offseason, Barkley signed a franchise tag deal with the Giants but after another season of failure and displeasure, the New York native looked for better opportunities.
Joining the Eagles at the start of the 2024 season, Barkley entered an atmosphere where he could thrive. Working in tandem with a brilliant coach in Nick Sirianni, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, quarterback Jalen Hurts, and a dominant offensive line, Barkley set the league on fire.
In 17 regular season games, the 7-year veteran finished with a league-high 2,005 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns along the ground. Barkley provided several moments of individual brilliance rushing through the gates for long carries providing a different level of dynamism to the Eagles’ offense.

Saquon Barkley began his professional football career in the NFL in 2018 and is currently playing in his seventh season. Barkley quickly established himself as one of the top running backs in the game rushing for back-to-back 1,000-plus yard seasons in his first two years in the league.
Barkley’s 2020 campaign came to an abrupt end in just the second week after he suffered a torn ACL in a game against the Chicago Bears. His 2021 season was a down year as he missed a few games due to Covid protocol but he returned to form the following year and since then has played at a very high level.
The former Giants’ running back was drafted second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft only behind quarterback Baker Mayfield who went to the Cleveland Browns. Barkley entered the Draft that year on the back of three years of college football playing for the Penn State Nittany Lions where he ran for a total of 3,843 yards with 43 rushing touchdowns in his three years. He also had nearly 1,200 receiving yards during the same time

At present, Barkley is playing for his second team. He started his career with the New York Giants after they drafted him in 2018. He spent the first six seasons in East Rutherford integrating seamlessly into the offense. He was the focal point of the Giants’ offense, especially towards the final couple of seasons with the team
Former Giants RB Saquon Barkley reached agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles on a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75M and includes $26M fully guaranteed at signing, per sources.

In 2024, Barkley joined the Philadelphia Eagles where he has enjoyed tremendous success in just his first year with his new team. He has basically put the team on his back and has been the most dominant force on the team and their success as they try to add another Lombardi Trophy to the one they won back in Super Bowl LII.
nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
