How Did Lewis Hamilton Silently Assist Ferrari’s First Podium?

Sir Lewis Hamilton was a key figure in helping Ferrari score their first podium in 2025.

Lewis Hamilton has not made the best of the starts for the 2025 season with his new team. Hamilton is the second highest-paid driver of the 2025 season. But, in five out of five races in the first two months of F1, Hamilton has not yet managed to beat his teammate. Even though, Hamilton has shown flashes of brilliance, like the Sprint Race in China. He is yet to produce another top-5 finish for the Italian outfit.

Lewis Hamilton is still coming to terms with his car. As mentioned by him, Hamilton is taking time to adjust to his new car. He can be seen applauding his team or apologizing to them on the radio for a bad weekend.

Nevertheless, it is clear that Lewis Hamilton is vastly unable to match the pace of his teammate. Charles Leclerc on the other hand is clearly improving day by day. He has produced better finish than Hamilton in every Q3 and race in 2025. But Lewis Hamilton secretly played a huge role for Ferrari in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2025. In fact, it would be an understatement to say that Ferrari could’ve won the podium with Leclerc alone at Jeddah.

Lewis Hamilton Makes Crucial Assist for Charles Leclerc

When the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix came to an end, Charles Leclerc was in third position and Hamilton was in seventh position in the final standings. On paper, the teammates were separated by a gap of more than 30 s. This did not look good on Lewis Hamilton’s statistics page. It was visible that Hamilton had a much poorer weekend in comparison to his teammate.

But, an Instagram account named trackmonstr dug deeper in the data of the race to dish out some crucial information. You see, Lewis Hamilton was previously fighting Lando Norris trying to keep him behind. Norris was on fresher tyres but Hamilton was not going to give up without a fight. For two laps, Lando Norris was stuck behind Sir Hamilton.

Hamilton was giving us yet another example of his driving experience, by baiting Norris to overtake him just before the DRS zones in order to reclaim the lead with DRS. Hamilton’s DRS baiting move made Norris struggle to overtake him. He ended up losing approximately 1.887s during these two laps. How is that relevant?

When the race came to an end, Lando Norris was stuck behind Leclerc with a gap of merely 1.092s. Had it not been for Sir Lewis Hamilton, Norris would have easily overtaken Leclerc in the last few laps with the pace he enjoyed all race. In a way, Sir Hamilton became the unsung hero for the Rosso Corsa outfit on Sunday at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
