Clay-tested Rune faces rising wildcard Nava in second-round clash
Tenth seed Holger Rune is set to take on wildcard Emilio Nava in the second round of Roland Garros. Nava impressed with a straight-sets win over Botic van de Zandschulp in the opener, while Rune battled past Roberto Bautista Agut after dropping the first set.
The Dane enters with momentum, having recently claimed his fifth career title in Barcelona, where he defeated world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, further underlining his comfort on clay, where three of his five titles have come.

Given Rune’s past success in Paris, runner-up in both 2022 and 2024, he’ll be the heavy favorite, but Nava’s rise adds intrigue to this clash.

Rune’s season has been somewhat inconsistent, but he’s shown resilience by reaching at least the Round of 16 in nearly every event. His standout results include a finals run at Indian Wells, where he was upset by Jack Draper in straight sets. And a title win in Barcelona, highlighted by a victory over Carlos Alcaraz.
Holding a 17-11 YTD record, Rune has delivered 84 aces, won 70% of his first-serve points, and converted 40% of his break point chances, solid numbers that reflect his dangerous clay-court game.

Nava, by contrast, is stepping into the ATP spotlight for the first time this season, and Roland Garros already marks his best-ever main-draw result. While his 3-16 career ATP record suggests limited top-level experience, the American wildcard has been on a roll in the Challenger circuit, claiming three titles this year in Paraguay, Chile, and Sarasota. Having been the clear underdog, Nava arrives with momentum and little to lose.
Holger Rune and Emilio Nava do not have a head-to-head yet.
| Holger Rune | Category | Emilio Nava |
| 10 | Ranking | 137 |
| 156-96 | Career W-L | 3-16 |
| 17-11 | YTD W-L | 0-0 |
| 5 | Career Titles | 0 |

| 1 | YTD Titles | 0 |
Rune clearly holds the edge because of his clay-court background, recent Barcelona title, and extensive Slam experience. Nava’s Challenger success is promising, but Rune’s firepower is superior.
Prediction: Holger Rune in straight sets
Here are the betting odds according to BetMGM:
Holger Rune: 1/10
Emilio Nava: 6/1
