Heartwarming Story Reveals Israel Adesanya’s Softer Side Amidst Career Downfall

Zaid Quraishi

A touching new story uncovers Israel Adesanya’s vulnerable side, revealing the champion's compassion despite facing career setbacks!

Every so often, the fight world shows fans there is more to fighters than just their punch count. Israel Adesanya built his reputation as a striking wizard, dancing past opponents in the octagon. The former middleweight champion dazzled fans with matrix-like moves and sharp tongue, becoming one of UFC‘s biggest stars.

However, behind those flashy kicks and anime-inspired celebrations beats the heart of a guy who remembers what it’s like to be a dreaming fan. And recently, a story popped up about how he grounded his is with his fans, despite being a super star!

A DM That Changed Everything

Back in 2021, a young martial artist named Joshua Iyalla took a shot in the dark and messaged Israel Adesanya. Instead of that message disappearing into the void of celebrity DMs, something magical happened. Adesanya not only responded but followed him back, saying Iyalla’s kicks actually inspired him. That’s like having LeBron James say he likes your jump shot!

“In 2021 I messaged Israel Adesanya, I told him my dream was to train with him. He followed me back [on Instagram] and said my kicks inspired him. I was overwhelmed but my journey had just begun. In 2023 I asked to train with him, he invited Joel and I for a week. We didn’t just train. He treated us like his little brothers. Taking us out multiple times. It was the trip of a lifetime.”

The story gets better. By 2023, Adesanya invited Iyalla and his friend Joel for what turned into the ultimate fight camp sleepover. They didn’t just train, Israel Adesanya treated them like little brothers, showing them around and hanging out. The former champ turned what could have been a quick photo op into a genuine friendship.

Standing Strong Through Tough Times

Even after losing his title and facing recent setbacks, including a tough knockout loss to Nassourdine Imavov in Saudi Arabia, Adesanya’s true character shines through. He flew his young friends out to watch him fight, and despite the pressure, jumped off stage just to greet them. That is the kind of stuff no one can fake. It is championship behavior without the belt.

While Adesanya takes time off to regroup after his recent losses, his impact grows beyond his fight record. The UFC honored his epic battle with Kelvin Gastelum by adding it to the Hall of Fame’s Fight Wing. But perhaps his real legacy is showing that even at the highest levels of fighting, there is room for genuine connection. From responding to a fan’s DM to building lasting friendships, Israel Adesanya proved that sometimes the biggest wins happen outside the cage.
