‘He Is Not The One You Move On From’ – Chael Sonnen Gives His Take On Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena

Chael Sonnen gives his take on the upcoming Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena welterweight title fight!

Chael Sonnen always brings spice to MMA commentary with his unique perspectives. The former UFC title challenger turned analyst rarely holds back his opinions. His YouTube channel and podcast have become must-watch content for fight fans. Sonnen built his reputation through both his fighting career and his unmatched promotional abilities. Now he uses those same communication skills to break down the biggest upcoming matchups.

Recently, Sonnen shared his thoughts on the welterweight title fight between champion Belal Muhammad and challenger Jack Della Maddalena. The matchup has generated buzz among hardcore fans but hasn’t received the mainstream attention of other title fights. Sonnen’s analysis offers fascinating insights into what might be one of the year’s most intriguing championship bouts.

Chael Sonnen Gives His Take On Jack Della Maddalena

Sonnen was talking about Gilbert Burns’ take of Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena. The Australian fighter has quietly built one of the most impressive winning streaks in the UFC. His knockout power and aggressive style have turned heads in the welterweight division. Sonnen emphasized that JDM brings legitimate title challenger credentials to this fight.

“The first time i ever saw Jack, i sat in this chair and told you ‘Keep an eye on this guy names Jack…Jack is not the one you move on from. He strikes me as a real contender.”

Sonnen pointed to Della Maddalena’s finishing ability as something that separates him from previous Muhammad opponents. The challenger’s seven UFC victories have included five finishes, most by knockout. This finishing instinct creates danger for any opponent, champion or not. Sonnen believes Della Maddalena’s performance against Burns elevated him from prospect to legitimate contender overnight.

Chael Sonnen Reveals Belal Muhammad’s Toughness Under Adversity

Sonnen saved his highest praise for champion Belal Muhammad’s determination to defend his title despite serious health concerns. Late last year, Belal was supposed to take on Shavkat Rakhmonov, but ended up withdrawing due to a bone infection. The seriousness of this infection was not known to the public. Sonnen disclosed this while giving props to Muhammad for his toughness.

“Are you aware that he was on the fence whether he was going to live or die? All through an infection that came through his toe…What a stud Belal is. He is not gonna tell you he almost died… But i am choosing to do it because he deserves credit. That is what a badass does.”

Muhammad’s willingness to compete and that too for a different opponent shortly after getting compromised shows his commitment to being an active champion. The welterweight division has seen extended periods with inactive champions in recent years. Sonnen appreciated Muhammad’s old-school approach to championship responsibilities.

Despite praising Muhammad’s heart, Sonnen expressed concern about how the infection might affect his performance. The champion’s cardio-heavy wrestling style requires peak physical condition. Any reduction in stamina could prove problematic against a dangerous striker like Della Maddalena. And whether fans see this or not, this fight might be way closer than they think.
