Belal Muhammad Announces Plans For UFC 315, Wishes To Put On A Show Like His Idol

Zaid Quraishi

Belal Muhammad hopes to put on a performance and chase the legacy of George St-Pierre in the UFC!

Growing up in Chicago, young Belal Muhammad would stay up late watching UFC fights. One fighter always caught his eye above all others. Georges St-Pierre, the welterweight king moved with grace and dominated opponents with strategy and skill. The way GSP carried himself inspired a generation of fighters. Belal was among those who dreamed of following in those championship footsteps.

Fast forward to today, and ‘Remember the Name’ stands at the pinnacle of his own legacy. The Palestinian-American fighter has climbed the welterweight rankings through consistency and determination, and recently won the belt in a dominating fashion. His rise hasn’t been flashy, but his ten-fight unbeaten streak speaks volumes. Now with the welterweight title firmly in his grasp, Belal has set his sights on something bigger than just defending a belt.

Belal Muhammad Chases GSP-Like Status

Belal recently revealed his ambitious plans for UFC 315, and they extend far beyond a simple title defense. The bout is set to take place in Centre Bell Arena in Montreal, Canada. Canada is home to Georges St-Pierre, and potentially fighting in front of his idol is a dream come true for Muhammad. Talking to UFC, this is what he said:

“It’s surreal, fighting in GSP’s stadium, infront of GSP. Before i was in the UFC, i drove all the way down to Montreal to train at Tristar, hoping GSP would be there… He is the guy that is considered the GOAT of your weight class. Somebody you always look upto… I’m chasing GSP, trying to catch up to him.”

Muhammad’s admiration for St-Pierre runs deeper than most fighters’ typical hero worship. He has studied GSP’s fights religiously, noting how the Canadian legend combined wrestling prowess with strategic striking.

Belal Muhammad’s Take On Jack Della Maddalena

The current welterweight champion doesn’t shy away from bold statements about his upcoming title defense. When discussing Jack Della Maddalena, his Australian challenger known for knockout power, Belal shows zero concern. He gave props to him but also revealed that he was going to “break him down to a different level.” Despite the trash talk, Muhammad maintains respect for his opponent’s skills and journey to the title shot. He stated that Della Maddalena lacked the “quit button” in him unlike Leon Edwards.

UFC 315 represents more than just another title defense for Belal Muhammad. It is the beginning of what he hopes will be a historic championship run. The welterweight division hasn’t seen dominant reign since Kamaru Usman’s streak ended. Muhammad believes he can fill that void and perhaps even surpass it!
