Grigor Dimitrov sustained a serious injury during the fourth-round matchup of the Wimbledon champions and the unfortunate injury forced him to retire against Jannik Sinner. Before leaving the game, the Bulgarian ace was leading the match with 2-0 and third set was tied on 2-2. Now, there is a big update on his injury and the recovery period ahead of the US Open.

Grigor Dimitrov’s Participation in US Open in Jeopardy after torn pectoral muscle diagnosis!

Dimitrov was on the verge of knocking out the world No. 1 and reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2014. During the third set, he collapsed on the court and went out for two minutes to complete the medical assistance. He came back and decided to retire from the match. Sinner got a walkover win and qualified for the quarterfinals. With this injury, question rises on Dimitrov’s participation on the US Open.

Grigor Dimitrov suffered a partial tear of his pectoralis major muscle, as per the Bulgarian outlet TennisKafe. The extent of the injury is serious and it demands recovery. The 34-year-old is already out of the ATP 250 clay court event in Bostad which will be held from July 14. His participation is also in jeopardy for the upcoming two Masters events in Toronto (July 27-August 7) and Cincinnati (August 7-18).

As per the updates, the injury will keep him out for at least one month. Now, big question is on his participation in season’s last Grand Slam event, US Open. It will kick off on August 24 in Queens, New York City. Reports still back him to play the US Open but it depends on the recovery process.
