Teenage Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva is making headlines both on and off the court here at Wimbledon. The 18-year-old just became the youngest player to make it to the quarterfinals in 18 years. But before she plays her match against Belinda Bencic later today, she got the chance to witness a legends match featuring her coach, Conchita Martinez.

Andreeva Shows Up To Support and Cheer for Her Coach

Following her brilliant straight sets win over Emma Navarro in the round of 16 clash on Monday, Andreeva showed the funny side of her nature when she spoke about coming out and supporting her coach from the stands with a big poster. She also embraced the idea of getting her revenge by finally being able to coach her coach in a hilarious reversal of roles.

“Yes. I’m gonna get my revenge finally. I’m already thinking about a poster that I will make. I will come to the court with a huge poster, and I’m going to support and obviously you know coach because I think that’s my time to you know get back at her.”

True to her word, the seventh seed was in attendance on court no. 16, one of the outside courts, for the invitational doubles match for legends. Andreeva came dressed up, wearing a large cap, and holding a huge poster as she had earlier promised. The humorous poster had encouraging words such as “Let’s Go!” and “You are Golden.”

Andreeva was also seen enjoying her day off as she shouted words of encouragement from the stands in what was her comical way of coaching and supporting her coach, Martinez, with whom she shares a wonderful rapport.

The 1994 Wimbledon winner, Martinez, and Andreeva began their partnership a little over a year ago, and the Russian has seen a tremendous change in her game since then.

The 18-year-old has had an eventful year as she cracked the top 10 in rankings and became the youngest WTA 1000 champion following her win in Dubai. Martinez then guided her to a second consecutive WTA 1000 title at Indian Wells.

Currently, the seventh seed has progressed to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time in her career. She will now take on the challenge of Belinda Bencic, who has also achieved her career-best result at the All England Club.

En route to the quarters, Andreeva has played exceptional tennis, winning all four of her matches without dropping a set. While her service has been consistent, her defensive skills and play in return games have been the highlight in this tournament.
