Can Fritz earn his first win over Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semis?
The semifinals of Wimbledon 2025 are all set, and we have the number 2 seed and 2-time defending Champion Carlos Alcaraz taking on the number 5 seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court. The match is expected to be a cracking affair as both players have played some magical tennis in the tournament thus far.
The number 2 seed, Alcaraz, has been in sublime form this season. He has already won 5 titles, which include his successful defense of the 2024 Roland Garros crown.
But, moving on from the French Open, he entered only one grass court tournament at Queens, where he went on to win the final over Jiri Lehecka, and entered Wimbledon with a perfect 5-0 record on grass.
Alcaraz started out slowly in Wimbledon and was taken to 5 sets by the ageing Fabio Fognini. It was not the best match of the Spaniard’s young career, but since then, he has played better.
Having said that, he dropped a set in the third round against Jan-Lennard Struff and in the round of 16 against Andrey Rublev, but recovered well in the quarterfinals with a straight-set win over local favorite Cameron Norrie.

Taylor Fritz had an early first-round exit at the French Open, but that allowed him to partake in three grass-court tournaments ahead of Wimbledon.
Of the three tournaments, he won his first title of the year at the Boss Open, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final, before losing in his first match at Queens. But he followed that up with his second title at the Eastbourne Open.
Heading into Wimbledon, Taylor was 8-1 on grass this year. Although he has played quite well, it has not been smooth sailing for the American, who had to battle through 2 five-setters in the opening two rounds, and has won only one match without dropping a set.
Breaking new ground.

Alcaraz and Fritz have only played twice against each other, with the Spaniard reigning supreme in both matches. Their first meeting was at the Miami Masters in 2023, while their most recent encounter came in the 2024 Laver Cup. Alcaraz has won both matches in straight sets.
Judging by the head-to-head between the two, Alcaraz holds a clear advantage over Fritz. Nevertheless, the pair have never faced off on grass, so we could be in for a surprise.
Carlos Alcaraz’s semifinal matchup against Taylor Fritz is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 11. The day’s play will start no sooner than 8:30 AM ET, which is 1:30 PM local time.
The semifinal matchup between Alcaraz and Fritz can be followed on ESPN, ESPN-2, and the Tennis Channel for viewers from the US. Moreover, live streaming will also be available on ESPN+, Disney+, and Fubo (free trial). As for viewers in the UK, the match will be telecast on BBC, TNT Sports, or Discovery+.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
