The NFL Week 14 Thursday Night Football game started slow but got our hearts pumping immediately after halftime! The Packers turned up the heat in the second half but fantastic clock control towards the end of the game proved to be key for the Lions win as they never allowed Jordan Love and co. come back.
The Lions defense, despite being battered by injuries, proved they won’t back down no matter what. The Lions defense held the Packers to just 3 completions in the first half, which clearly shows the fight in this team.
A playoff spot was on the line for the Lions. Detroit managed to clinch a playoff spot with a very close finish (that almost gave the Lions fans a heart attack tonight) over the Packers. The Lions are now 12-1, with an 11-game win streak which is also a franchise record as they improve to 6-1 at home.
Here are the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers match player stats and box score for the week 14 TNF game tonight.
Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Final |
Green Bay Packers | 0 | 7 | 14 | 10 | 31 |
Detroit Lions | 7 | 10 | 7 | 10 | 34 |
It was a slow start for the offense on both sides. At halftime, the Lions could score 17 as compared to the Packers who managed to score only 7. 0-2 for on their 3rd down attempts, the Packers could only make 105 yards in the first half.
31 passing yards for Jordan Love with 3 completions, 131 yards for Jared Goff- It was pretty evident that the first half was dominated more by defense rather than offense. Only 3 pass completions in the first half was the Packers’ lowest number since 2013.
The Lions managed to score 2 touchdowns and a FG while the Packers scored a single touchdown in the first half.
But the Packers began the second half with a bang. A bullet throw from Jordan Love was beautifully caught by TE Tucker Kraft for a 12-yard TD. On the Lions’ drive, Jared Goff’s throw was picked by Keisean Nixon, who ran the ball for 16 yards.
3 minutes 45 seconds: That was all that took the Packers to erase a 10-point deficit as Packers RB Josh Jacobs rushed for 6 yards for another touchdown on a 3 plays, 16 yards drive.
But if the Lions are known for anything this season, it is their grit to fight back
Gibbs has gone for over 1000 yards this season. A 20-yard rush from Gibbs got the Lions up and running, followed by another 4-yard and 1-yard push. Goff’s 3-yard pass to Tim Patrick was caught for a touchdown, putting the Lions in the driver’s seat again.
But Josh Jacobs rushed up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown to take the Packers up again. Josh Jacobs got his third touchdown of the night. This also made him the third player in Packers history to score 8 rushing touchdowns over 4 games after Jim Taylor and Aaron Jones.
A 10 plays, 70 yards drive with some Sam LaPorta and David Montgomery magic was converted to a touchdown as Tim Patrick caught his second TD pass of the night. A field goal from the Packers tied the game 31-31.
A huge play from Jared Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown was called short after a review and reversed. Goff tripped on the next play but managed to pass the ball to Montgomery who rushed the ball for 7-yards.
It all came down to Jake Bates attempting a 35-yard field goal with 0:02 left on the clock. Mr. Bates made the field goal and Detroit won the game 34-31, extending their win streak to 11 straight games! As their team mantra goes, Lions once again showed GRIT, the quality that makes them one of the most formidable sides in the league this year!
