French Open Fairy Tale Continues As Lois Boisson Defeats Mirra Andreeva, Reaches First Career Grand Slam Semi-Final

The Playoffs News Team

Lois Boisson has etched her name in history at Roland Garros this year. This French sensation overpowered the WTA No. 6 Mirra Andreeva at the quarterfinals in Philippe-Chatrier by 7(8)-6(6) and 6-3. In a 2 hours and 15 minutes match, Boisson showcased amazing determination and form to take down last year’s semi-finalist Mirra Andreeva.

Although 4 years younger than her opponent, Andreeva arrived with more experience at the Philippe-Chatrier. She reached the Roland Garros semi-finals last year. Under the guidance of Conchita Martinez, she showed her true potential in Dubai and Indian Wells. Despite that, Lois Boisson’s hits seemed heavy on the Russian star.

The match started in Boisson’s favor, as she battled through 80 minutes to secure her win in the first set. Despite trailing by 3-5, she made an impressive return and saved two points to win the set with a tense tie-break. She won 5 straight games, leaving Andreeva frustrated as she hit a ball in the crowd in frustration.

Boisson hardly arrived at Roland Garros this year with any hope, all because of the knee injury last year that sidelined her from making a wildcard entry. Although this year, despite minimal hopes, her performance highlighted her incredible form and spirit. Her win against Jessica Pegula at R16 of the 2025 French Open brought her name to the headlines.

Post-victory, she oozed confidence with her words. “I knew before the match there was a possibility [I could win], but I knew she was very, very tough,” said Boisson.

Thanks to her resilience and dedication, Boisson will now try her luck against Coco Gauff in her first career grand slam semi-final on 5th June, 2025 at the Philippe-Chatrier stadium.

A point worth noting would be that the centre court at Roland Garros has been Boisson’s hunting ground. At the centre court, Boisson has now knocked out two Top-10 ranked players in back-to-back matches! Whether Coco Gauff would be the third to join her list, time would tell!
