Franco Colapinto Fails to Impress Team Principal Flavio Briatore!

Rohan Singh

Franco Colapinto is unable to perform well compared to Jack Doohan!

The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix was another disappointing weekend for Franco Colapinto. The Argentine racer is doing no better that his predecessor in the second Alpine seat. Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly had a positive outing in Spain with a P8 points finish.

Franco Colapinto was to replace Jack Doohan for five races in 2025. So far, he has completed three races without scoring a single point. June will be last outing in Formula 1 according to his current contract. The last time Franco raced as a substitute, he managed to turn heads with his performance. His previous experience at Williams was the prompt reason for Alpine to loan Colapinto from Williams.

Flavio Briatore Does Not See Positive Signs from Franco Colapinto

Talking about his weekend, Flavio Briatore was quick to dismiss any contract rumors for Franco Colapinto. There’s no idea if the Argentine will get more races to prove himself for Alpine in 2025.

However, Briatore has made things clear with his expectations in interview. Colapinto’s current level of performance is nowhere close to expectations. Briatore also did not like the fact that Colapinto crashed his car again.

“Races, I don’t know, honestly. I never tell five races, three races, four races, one race. We see.If Colapinto is performing, he’s driving the car. If not, we’ll see. 2025 is a year we need to prepare ourselves for 2026. So whatever experiment I need doing, we’re doing. I don’t know at this moment if Franco will stay for the season or not, but let’s see. Depends on the performance. We’re only looking at the performance — nothing else.”

Nico Rosberg was particularly worried about Colapinto’s future in the 2025 season. According to Rosberg, Franco is not in the good books of Briatore anymore. He warned Colapinto of the consequences of becoming a second driver for Alpine.

It’s quite obvious thay whatever experiment Alpine were planning didn’t end well. The question arises that will Jack Doohan find himself back in his seat?

Alpine have some high ambitions for the upcoming season. The regulation changes are making them hope that they might return to the front of the grid. Renault is also set to leave after 2026. As such, Alpine need to get their drivers right before they aim for such lofty goals in the upcoming season.
