The Hungary Grand Prix weekend is in full swing at the Hungaroring circuit. Formula 1 has completed all three practice sessions at the circuit. The entire grid is currently preparing for the qualifying session which will be underway soon. As always, the McLarens have been fastest cars throughout the weekend.

However, challengers like Charles Leclerc are trying to snatch a front row start from Papaya cars. The qualifying session is an important part in determining the advantage any driver will have. In terms of race pace, Hungaroring seldom promotes risky overtakes. The high levels of downforce at this track slows the cars down usually.

Hungary’s lack of long straights means drivers will have to maximise cornering advantage. The track is not good for teams which utilise greater speed in DRS zones and on a straight line. Ultimately, the high downforce is going to drag the cars down making them unusually slow.

At the first glance, it is visible that McLaren have no competition at the track. In all three practice sessions, the Papaya cars were claiming the top-2 spots. The final practice session was trumped Oscar Piastri. McLaren’s closest rival for now is Scuderia Ferrari. Charles Leclerc has been exceptionally fast this weekend. The driver is utilising Ferrari’s upgrades judiciously to put his car in the top-5s.

The gap between the drivers is not significant during the practice sessions. It seems that this weekend, both Ferraris are going to end up in the Top-5s. The Silver Arrows are also gaining their confidence back. Kimi Antonelli will want to come back and fight for a Top-10 start in Q3. The Italian is feeling better with Mercedes’ upgrades.

In the midfield, Haas and Sauber are looking rather competitive. We may see them fight in the Q3 for a top-10 start to tomorrow’s race. Aston Martin were quick in FP2 but with Fernando’s injury they may suffer a setback.

McLaren boys are the clear favorites for winning pole in Hungary. The two Papaya cars have overwhelming odds compared to other drivers. Interestingly, Max Verstappen is still fourth in the list although he has not shown strong pace during the practice sessions. Nevertheless, the Dutchman is a miracle maker.

The odds also put the Aston Martins above other midfield cars. But, the consistency of Haas and Racing Bulls is far better than the Aston Martins. Thus, Aston Martins are rather likely to fail from reaching Q3 this time in Hungary.
