Former World No. 2 Paula Badosa Provides Heartbreaking US Open 2025 Update

The Spaniard has been out of action since Wimbledon.

Spanish sensation Paula Badosa has made a disheartening announcement ahead of the upcoming 2025 US Open in New York. The World No. 12 reached the quarterfinal stage at Flushing Meadows last year, making this update a massive setback for her. Badosa is set to miss the rest of the North American swing, including the final major of the season.

Throughout her career, Badosa has fought a constant battle with injuries. She started the 2025 campaign with a semifinal finish at the Australian Open – losing to close friend and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Since then, it has been an injury-filled year for the Spaniard. A former World No. 2 and Olympic quarterfinalist, Badosa is hoping to return at the earliest. She currently has a 17-11 record on tour, with no titles to show for it.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since her opening round loss at the Wimbledon Championships. A recurring back issue has kept the Spaniard on the sidelines, resulting in a collapse in terms of ranking. The injury continues to trouble Badosa, who took to social media to announce that she will be missing the US Open this year. “It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my withdrawal from this year’s US Open,” said Badosa.

With the main draw set to commence on August 24, Badosa’s absence as a former quarterfinalist will be a huge loss for the tournament. “This decision was incredibly difficult to make,” continued the veteran on social media. “After the amazing run I had in New York last year and the deep connection I feel with the city and its fans, stepping away from this tournament is very emotional for me.”

“Wishing all the players the very best. To the fans in New York, I will miss you deeply and I look forward to being back as soon as I can.” Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann will replace Badosa in the main draw, with the returning Alize Cornet next in line.
