Philadelphia Flyers' Garnet Hathaway Faces Fine Following Elbowing Incident with Wild's Joel Eriksson Ek
Following an elbowing incident with the Minnesota Wild, the NHL Department of Player Safety fined Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers. Hathaway has received a $5,000 fine for his hit. A two-minute minor penalty was also given to him for the play.
Per the NHL, Hathaway received a roughing penalty against Joel Eriksson Ek in the second period due to an elbow incident.
Marcus Foligno of the Minnesota Wild was filled with rage after the game. He vented his frustration on Hathaway and his playing tactics, stating that Hathaway must continue playing in that manner to remain important in the NHL.
“It’s what he has to do to stay relevant in this league,” Foligno said.
Marcus Foligno’s anger wasn’t solely due to the elbow. Joel Eriksson Ek had recently returned to the team following a nose surgery. Foligno suggested that Garnet Hathaway deliberately targeted Eriksson Ek and was aware of it.
The Flyers emerged victorious in the game with a final score of 7-5. Hathaway didn’t contribute to the win on the scoresheet, while Eriksson Ek managed to tally a goal and an assist. Hathaway is in his second season in Philadelphia for the 2024-25 season. Last year, he participated in all 82 games and achieved a total of 17 points by scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists.
