Fernando Alonso Weighs in On Formula 1 Retirement After 2026!

What does Fernando Alonso think about retirement post the 2026 season

El Padre, Fernando Alonso, is racing for Aston Martin F1 in 2025. Alonso’s 2025 season underwent some hiccups but he is finally on track. After claiming his first points in the Spanish GP, Fernando Alonso is ready to lead the charge in Canada. However, his recent performance is raising a big question regarding his future.

Fernando Alonso once retired from Formula 1. His love for the sport brought his back with Alpine F1 in 2021. Since then he has been trying to regain his stature as one of the top drivers of the sport. Alonso’s 2023 season in Aston Martin F1 was a reminder of his talent. Since then, the Aston Martin F1 team has gone downhill. They have been unable to extract the best out of their car. Even though, Alonso is set to race with the team for the 2026 season, his future in Aston Martin is not confirm.

Fernando Alonso Discusses Factors for Retirement After 2026

In a recent interview with Sky F1, Alonso could be seen discussing about his retirement from Formula 1. Unfortunately for his fans, the Spaniard’s eagerness to race seems to be fading away. Aston Martin were utilising the services of Sebastian Vettel prior to Alonso.

It is a known fact that Vettel left the team due to lack of performance. The four-time champion could not find his calling to race anymore. Alonso is going through a similar phase in 2025. However, unlike Vettel, Alonso is lucky to work with Adrian Newey at Aston Martin F1. Newey is trying to bring radical changes in the team to make them compete on a better level.

“I think I need to see how next year starts and how motivated I am. Every year, there is a different mood into the season. There is a different feeling on how you perform, how competitive you feel yourself, how motivated you are to keep your fitness at the high level, personal situation, family situation – all these things play a role in some important decisions in life.”

Now that Alonso has given his verdict, it is up to Aston Martin F1 to provide him with a car competitive enough. Alonso may not be at the same level he was when he was racing for world championships. But he still has wins left in him. And Alonso’s performance will directly help the team gain better traction in their world championship dreams.
