Who Is Coaching Felix Auger-Aliassime for the 2025 US Open Semifinals?

Felix Auger-Aliassime is back on the big stage, preparing for a career-defining US Open 2025 semifinal against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Canadian has enjoyed a resurgent season and now has the chance to rewrite his Grand Slam story. But behind every great run lies a solid support system. So, who has been guiding Auger-Aliassime toward this crucial moment?

Who Is the Coach of Felix Auger-Aliassime?

Since 2017, Felix Auger-Aliassime’s main coach has been Frederic Fontang, a former French professional who peaked at No. 59 and captured an ATP title in Palermo. Fontang previously guided the careers of Jeremy Chardy, Caroline Garcia, and Vasek Pospisil, all of whom flourished under his mentorship. Together with Auger-Aliassime, he has built a relationship of consistency and trust, training mainly in Monaco.

In 2021, Auger-Aliassime added Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s legendary uncle, to his team. Under Nadal’s influence, he played some of his best tennis, reaching the US Open semifinals that year. However, the collaboration ended organically, with Auger-Aliassime confirming in January that Toni is no longer part of his camp. “We had a great relationship… but for these next tournaments, I am going to stay with my coach Fred and my dad is going to join us,” he explained.

Today, the 25-year-old’s team relies primarily on Fontang and his father, Sam Aliassime, who introduced him to tennis at just four years old.

Other Coaching Entourage of Felix Auger-Aliassime

Not much information is available about his full coaching entourage.

Auger-Aliassime was trained initially by his father, who emigrated from Togo. He honed his game at Tennis Canada’s National Training Centre in Montreal. His path includes winning a Challenger title before turning 16 and becoming the youngest player to claim a main draw Challenger match win.

With seven ATP titles, a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and now another shot at Grand Slam glory, Auger-Aliassime’s story is as much about persistence as it is about talent. Against Jannik Sinner, his team’s influence will be tested in one of the Canadian’s biggest matches yet.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
