F1 Rumors- Is Jack Doohan Going to Be Replaced at Alpine?

Jack Doohan's troubles won't come to an end anytime soon in this season.

The Alpines are currently at the back of the pack fighting amongst the Saubers and Aston Martins for 12th or 13th place finishes. Occasionally, Pierre Gasly manages to put their car in Q2 or Q3 which gives them slight hope for the earning some points in the race. Gasly is the only one that the French camp can rely on currently. Their second driver, rookie Jack Doohan, has been unable to match his teammate’s pace. Also, Doohan is involved in many crashes within the first few races. He is yet to earn a point in the 2025 season but his damage numbers are going up every weekend.

Jack Doohan’s seat at Alpine has been controversial to say nonetheless. Doohan seemingly earned his place in the 2025 season due to his performance in the lower categories. However, him and F2 champion, Gabriel Bortoleto are the only two rookies who have not earned a single point this season.

In Jack Doohan’s defense his car is insanely slow compared to the rest of the grid. But, Doohan’s pace is nowhere near his teammate’s. Pierre Gasly does manage to bring some points for his team. In comparison to him, Jack Doohan is being a liability currently.

Franco Colapinto Might End Up Replacing Jack Doohan

Franco Colapinto was William’s blessing in disguise last year. He managed to create some favorable situations for the team with a good points haul. Colapinto replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams in 2024. He could not get a seat in the 2025 season, although he was very confident about his chances. In 2025, Franco Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine. His entry in the Alpine paddock is ringing danger bells for Jack Doohan. Colapinto has proven himself in tough situations and has the experience necessary to replace Doohan.

Team principal, Flavio Briatore was already trying to get Franco Colapinto in his team since 2024. According to reports from The Race, Alpine has informed Jack Doohan about his replacement. He will be subbed out in favor of Franco Colapinto at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2025. Although, the situation is pretty surprising. Alpine had confirmed recently that they do not intend to swap Jack Doohan with some other driver.

Doohan might have shown some pace or good performances scattered in the first six races of the season. But his consistency has not improved. Alpine is particularly not impressed with his performance and wants to have a driver with better chances of scoring points. Jack Doohan’s situation mirrors Liam Lawson at Red Bull. It seems like the Austrian has provided the wrong role model for treating Formula 2 rookies during in their debut seasons in Formula 1.
