F1 Qualifying Today: Max Verstappen Wins Pole for the British Grand Prix Ahead of Home Heroes Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton!

F1 qualifying today has set the mood for the British Grand Prix. After an early crash red-flagging the session, the qualifying ended later than its proposed schedule. The British Grand Prix qualifying session had a lot of drama from start to finish. There was a slight drizzle during the first few laps of Q2 making the teams worry about the correct tyres.

Nevertheless, qualifying came to an end without any disturbance from rain. The entire session was full of surprises from every team. Only Franco Colapinto missed out on the action with an early crash in Q1. By the end of the session, the top-5 cars were gunning for pole position producing their best lap times. However, it was Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen who had the final laugh as the session came to an end. Verstappen drove in to claim pole position ahead of the McLarens and Ferraris.

As per the final results from Formula 1 official, the top-10 drivers in today’s qualifying session are-

Max Verstappen set a time of 1:24.892 at the end of Q3 to claim pole position in his final run. The Dutchman was lagging behind throughout the session. But he pulled off a miraculous lap in the final moments to bring home the pole position with two purple sectors. Verstappen went ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the McLarens. The two Papaya drivers were battling the Ferrari for the major part of the session. Norris was slight off-pace compared to his teammate.

George Russell went forward to bring in P4 in his final run in the qualifying session. The Briton was not in the race for pole position but he managed to overtake his former teammate for a better grid start tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton on the hand is facing massive disappointment. Hamilton was the crowd favorite this weekend. To top it off, he had the pace to go for a front row start. However, he could not overturn the Ferrari’s disadvantages in the final lap and ended up losing considerable amount of time to go P5.

Charles Leclerc will be extremely unhappy today. Him and his teammate have been setting the best lap times all weekend during the practice sessions. Leclerc was second fastest in Q2 behind Hamilton. However, he too lost his footing in the final runs of Q3 and ended up in P6. Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman were the best performing rookies today with a P7 and P8 respectively.

Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly closed the top-10 in P9 and P10. Both drivers struggles but fought back hard to bring their cars into Q3. Gasly earned himself a lot of praise from the commentators for his performance in qualifying today.

Rest of the Grid- A Plethora of Lost Opportunities

The British GP qualifying was very competitive and this meant that the best of drivers had to struggle to find a place in Q3. Regular performers like Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz could not put in a good enough lap time in Q2. Both Williams were out in Q2, which is a massive disappointment from the good performances they have put in earlier this season. Esteban Ocon brought P15 and could not join his teammate in Q3 today.

Both Racing Bulls were dramatically slow in qualifying today. The Red Bull junior team seems to have taken a step back in qualifying in the recent weekends.

The Sauber cars were severely underperforming on Silverstone Circuit. Both Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg put in merger lap times. The two Sauber’s were knocked out in Q1. Lance Stroll has not beaten his teammate in qualifying for one whole year as of the 2025 British Grand Prix. He could only go 18th fastest today. Franco Colapinto is the last driver having lost his car to a crash during the earlier stages of Q1.
