Barcelona’s dressing room hierarchy is rarely questioned. However, captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen now finds himself at the centre of a growing uncertain future. Once an automatic starter and a leadership presence, the Barcelona captain’s position has subtly shifted this season.

It has opened the door to widespread speculation about a possible exit in the months ahead. Ter Stegen is tied down by a long-term contract running until 2028. Even so, the goalkeeper’s role has changed drastically following a clear decision by the coaching staff to promote a new first choice.

With Ter Stegen now available, clubs across Europe are increasingly interested in the goalkeeper.
