Liverpool Confirm Extent of Alexander Isak Injury

Alexander Isak was helped off the pitch by the medical staff in north London after the injury and he did not reappear. It hasn’t been the best of starts for the forward since his high-profile arrival. Now scans conducted after the match revealed the extent of the damage.

Liverpool later confirmed that surgery had been carried out. In an official statement, the club said that the player “successfully underwent surgery” on an “ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.” They added that rehabilitation will now begin at the AXA Training Centre. They haven’t given any definitive return date yet.

However, it is expected that the recovery process will take several months. Signed for a British record fee in the summer, Isak already found consistency difficult to achieve. Even though he showed flashes of quality when fit. His strike against Spurs was only his third goal for the club and just his second in the Premier League.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the timing could hardly be worse. Isak’s absence leaves Arne Slot short of attacking options during a demanding stretch of the season.
