Axel Disasi’s time at Chelsea appears to be nearing its conclusion. The January transfer window could see the end for the defender’s Stamford Bridge spell. Disasi arrived with strong expectations and international pedigree. But the French centre-back now finds himself outside the club’s immediate plans.

It has prompted discussions over a mid-season exit. Chelsea’s ongoing squad restructuring has also left little room for Disasi to re-establish himself. Under Enzo Maresca, the defensive hierarchy has shifted decisively. Now, competition in the central defence has only intensified, leaving Disasi to look elsewhere for regular minutes.

Chelsea Ready to Part Ways With Axel Disasi

Disasi has spent much of the campaign on the fringes. Maresca made it clear early on that opportunities would be limited. Chelsea’s depth at centre-back along with their tactical preferences that favour other profiles, has effectively pushed the Frenchman down the pecking order.

His performances showed flashes of reliability at times. But they were not enough to secure a long-term role in a rapidly evolving setup. Chelsea are therefore open to letting him move on in January, preferably through a permanent transfer. That is, provided suitable terms are reached. Several clubs across Europe have already shown interest.

AC Milan Emerge As a Potential Destination

Among the sides monitoring the situation, AC Milan have once again been linked with Disasi. The Rossoneri are assessing defensive reinforcements amid concerns over squad depth. And Disasi has resurfaced as an attainable option. Milan were aware of him during the summer window. But they chose a different route at the time.

Now, intermediaries have reportedly reintroduced his profile ahead of January. Financial considerations could play a decisive role. Milan are operating under budget constraints. So, Disasi’s situation at Chelsea makes a short-term, low-cost move appealing. A loan deal could be on cards for the deal to go through.

However, Disasi is not the only defender on Milan’s radar. Joe Gomez has also been discussed internally as a longer-term solution. Although Liverpool’s reluctance to sell complicates that path. In contrast, Chelsea’s openness to negotiation places Disasi in a more accessible position. However, Milan haven’t yet made a concrete move for Disasi yet.

Beyond defence, Milan are also expected to adjust other areas of the squad in January. And that may influence priorities. Any incoming centre-back could trigger further movement, including loan exits for younger defenders. For Disasi, the coming weeks will tell where he is headed next.
