Eddie Hearn Vows To Sue Chris Eubank Jr Over Sabotage Accusations Ahead Of Conor Benn Rematch

Boxing press conferences are theatrical productions where fighters try to get inside each other’s heads while promoters carefully manage the story. Sometimes the drama stays within acceptable bounds, but other times things get genuinely nasty and cross lines that shouldn’t be crossed. The sport has seen its share of wild accusations and heated exchanges over the years, but it’s rare when a promoter threatens legal action against a fighter for comments made during promotional duties. Eddie Hearn has done just that when he threatened to sue Chris Eubank Jr over sabotage accusations before his rematch with Conor Benn.

The bad blood between the Eubank and Benn families goes back more than three decades to when their fathers fought those legendary battles in the 1990s. Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn gave fans two of the most memorable fights in British boxing history. Their sons have been carrying on that rivalry in the modern era. Eubank Jr beat Conor Benn by unanimous decision back in April, but instead of settling the family feud, that fight only seemed to make things more bitter. Now with their rematch scheduled for November 15th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the animosity has reached new levels that have legal teams getting involved.

Chris Eubank Jr Makes Explosive Claims About Fight Night Interference

The latest drama erupted during what should have been a routine press conference to promote their upcoming rematch. Eubank Jr (35-3) decided to use his time at the microphone to make some pretty serious accusations against Matchroom Boxing, which promotes Benn. He claimed that Benn’s team did everything possible to sabotage him during their first fight. He accused them of blocking his team from entering the stadium for thirty minutes and having security deliberately slow down his arrival. Those kinds of allegations are serious enough on their own, but Eubank Jr wasn’t finished there.

The most damaging claim came when Eubank Jr described what happened after their April fight ended. He said he was severely dehydrated and needed to go to the hospital in an ambulance. He claimed that Benn’s people blocked the ambulance from leaving the stadium for twenty minutes. According to Eubank Jr, he was lying on a gurney with an oxygen mask while someone prevented the gate from opening to let them leave. He painted a picture of Matchroom deliberately endangering his health even after the fight was over. This would be an incredibly serious breach of professional standards if true.

Eubank Jr didn’t stop with just the ambulance story either. He claimed the dehydration was so severe that one of his toenails fell off. He further accused Matchroom of everything from contract breaches to biased commentary and refereeing. The list of alleged dirty tricks was extensive. These weren’t just complaints; they were accusations that could have serious legal and safety implications.

Eddie Hearn Fires Back With Legal Threats And Evidence Claims

Eddie Hearn wasn’t about to let those kinds of accusations go unanswered. The Matchroom chairman immediately called the allegations complete nonsense. Hearn further escalated things by threatening to take Eubank Jr to court unless he retracts the comments and apologizes publicly.

Hearn said he takes the accusations personally because they attack his reputation and that of his company. He claimed there’s a detailed log from the paramedics on fight night that shows exactly what happened. The promoter seemed genuinely angry about the situation. He said that some people would go for the jugular immediately but that he’s giving Eubank Jr a chance to apologize first. However, he also predicted that the fighter’s arrogance would prevent him from backing down.
