Dustin Poirier Teases Announcement Of His Retirement Fight And It Is Sooner Than What Fans Might Expect!

Zaid Quraishi

Dustin Poirier reveals the date when the opponent for his final fight shall be announced and it is sooner than fans expect!

Few fighters have earned as much respect in the UFC as Dustin Poirier. The Louisiana native has been a fixture in the lightweight division for over a decade. Fans have witnessed his evolution from a scrappy prospect to an elite contender who has faced the who’s who of MMA. His wars with Dan Hooker, Justin Gaethje, and Conor McGregor have cemented his legacy as one of the most entertaining fighters ever.

Now, it seems the beloved veteran is preparing for his final dance in the octagon. In a recent update, ‘The Diamond’ has revealed that fans won’t have to wait long to learn about his farewell fight.

Dustin Poirier Teases Final Fight News

Speaking with MMA Junkie recently, Poirier dropped a bombshell that caught many off guard. The timeline of his statement suggests negotiations are in the final stages, much sooner than most observers anticipated. His last appearance was a submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, where he fell short in his third attempt to secure undisputed UFC gold.

“In the next two weeks, you will know! I think two weeks.”

Poirier has been clear about his intentions for his swan song. No up-and-comers need apply. This is strictly a “legends only” affair. The former interim champion has ruled out facing rising stars like Paddy Pimblett, regardless of Pimblett’s impressive recent victory over Michael Chandler. Poirier has also expressed his desire to end his career in his home state of Louisiana, bringing his journey full circle in front of his hometown fans.

Who Can Dustin Poirier Fight Next?

There have been many speculations about who ‘The Diamond’ might face in his swan song. A fight with Dan Hooker or Rafael Fiziev is not on the cards. This leaves only a few names in the stacked lightweight division. Charles Oliveira is one of them. However, there were rumours that he might get the next title shot against Islam Makhachev.

A trilogy fight with Justin Gaethje also seems plausible. He is a legendary fighter and is well known for his all out style. Once again, rumors of him getting the title shot are rife. A fight against Arman Tsarukyan and teammate Mateusz Gamrot seems to be off Poirier’s list as well.

One fight that makes perfect sense for his swan song is a rematch against the current BMF champion Max Holloway. What better way to go out than to claim the BMF title in your final fight. But this is all speculation, and if Poirier is to be trusted, fans may hear about the opponent in the next week or two!
