Draymond Green’s DPOY Odds Skyrocket as Warriors Continue to Surge

Draymond Green now leads the DPOY Award 2024-25 Odds.

Golden State Warriors’ power forward Draymond Green is now leading the odds to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. The veteran forward surpassed Cleveland Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley to secure the top spot on the charts and make his case to be adjudged the NBA DPOY.

Ever since his debut in 2012, Green has emerged as one of the most versatile defender in the league. He has been an eight-time member of the All-Defensive Team as well as a runner-up for the DPOY Award thrice. The winner of the 2016-17 DPOY Award, Green was recently adjudged as the “best defender in the world” by his coach, Steve Kerr.

With his recent performances, the odds of Green taking the DPOY Award home has surged significantly. According to Polymarket, there is 74.1% chances of him claiming the title. He is followed by the Cavs’ All-Star Mobley with the chances of 43.4%.

Notably, Green’s odds of winning took a leap after the San Antonio Spurs’ star center Victor Wembanyama’s injury who got ruled out of the season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Meanwhile, Memphis Grizzlies’ two-time All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr., who had been leading the DPOY race, sustained a left ankle injury earlier this month. The injury sidelined him for five games, allowing Green to climb the rankings.

At the beginning of this month, Green’s chances of winning the DPOY Award were as low as 0.3%, whereas Mobley was leading the charts with 46.4%. However, his odds surged after his impressive performances in the recent games. In the last five fixtures, he has averaged 5.6 defensive rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.2 blocks per game.

Green has an impressive defensive rating of 108.5 this season with 57 games he has played for the Dubs. Moreover, he is averaging 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. It shows his ability to limit the rivals on the court.
