Draymond Green Injury: How long is Warriors veteran expected to be sidelined?

The Golden State Warriors, who have been marred by injury concerns of several players, received another blow during their 122-114 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday, January 18. The match saw veteran Draymond Green suffer a left calf strain, which forced him to walk off after three minutes of playing.

Notably, Green, currently averaging 8.4 points, 6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game this season, was playing his first game after a three-match absence due to illness and a back issue.

Sharing an update on his health injury, the Warriors revealed that the four-time NBA champion underwent scans. According to the medical reports, the star forward suffered a mild calf strain and will undergo re-evaluation within a week.

Green, who has played in 34 games for the Warriors, wasn’t the only one who exited the game against the Wizards. Stephen Curry also limped off the court after colliding with Jordan Poole. However, his injury wasn’t as serious, as he returned to the court on Monday, during a 125-85 loss against the Boston Celtics.

As per the update shared by the Warriors, Green will be out of the team for at least a week before he is re-evaluated. It means that after missing the game against the Celtics, he will also be out of this week’s games, against Sacramento, Chicago and the LA Lakers.

Green isn’t the only player who is out with injury for the Warriors. Apart from him, Jonathan Kuminga, Kyle Anderson and Brandin Podziemski have been ruled out. The Warriors, who began the current season on a promising 12-3 record, but reached 21-21, after the Boston Celtics handed them their worst home loss in 40 years. Steve Kerr’s men went down 125-85 in the game.

Ahead of the Warriors’ Monday clash against the Celtics, head coach Steve Kerr was all praise for the defensive leader and star Stephen Curry.

During the pre-match media interaction, Kerr said, “He’s such a unique player. He’s one of the best playmaking bigs in the league playing with Steph. When he goes out, we become more traditional, spread the floor, put shooters out there.”

“Steph and Dray have such a connection that when they’re together out there, they’re playing their game and we’re playing our game. As soon as Draymond leaves the floor, it becomes a different game,” Kerr added.

The Warriors will be up against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, January 22.
