Dominique Malonga WNBA Draft Projection- Where Will Dominique Malonga Go?

It’s been two years since French international Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA Draft and was picked by the San Antonio Spurs. Wembanyama wreaked havoc in his rookie season, and was adjudged Rookie of the Year. Two years after his debut, his fellow French player Dominique Malonga is set to enter the 2025 WNBA Draft, and is projected to be one of the top five picks.

The 6-foot-6 big plays for ASVEL Féminin in the French Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB), and is also a member of the French Women’s National Basketball team. In the 2024 Olympics, she was the youngest member on team at just 18 years, and averaged 2.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 blocks for the side that finished second on the podium.

She is averaging 15.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game this season, and leads the league in rebounding and blocks per game. Not only this, but the 19-year-old is also the only player in the league to score double-digit rebounds on a nightly basis.

She began her professional journey with ASVEL Feminin in 2021 and was loaned to Tarbes Gespe Bigorre in the 2023-24 season. During her stint with the side, she averaged 11.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game in over 25 games.

Since Malonga is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 WNBA Draft, let’s see where she can land ahead of the brand new season of the league.

Malonga has the presence to dominate the court and is capable of dunking, which is something not common in the women’s game. She made history in 2024 as the first female French player to dunk in a game. While the 20-year-old has significant room for growth, she is expected to be the second overall pick after Notre Dame star Olivia Miles withdrew from the draft.

Since the Seattle Storm have the second overall pick, it would be hard to pass up on this talented youngster.

How did Dominique Malonga’s Basketball Career Began in France?

Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Malonga comes from a family of professional athletes. Her mother, Agathe N’Nindjem-Yolemp, is a former Cameroonian basketball player, and played a significant role in the 19-year-old’s basketball journey. As per reports, she last played as a center for the Basket Catalan Perpignan Méditerranée in the French NF3. Malonga began her basketball journey at her mother’s academy.

Her father, Thalance Malonga, is himself a former basketball player. When Dominique Malonga was just 15, she was by signed by the elite French professional club ASVEL Féminin. ASVEL President Tony Parker once called her “the female version of Victor Wembanyama” due to her skills.
