Dominic Mysterio once again lived up to his Dirty Dom moniker, utilizing controversial and chaotic but the most effective tactics to retain his WWE Intercontinental Championship. He defeated Rusev and Penta in a Triple Threat at Saturday Night’s Main Event to keep his title reign intact.
The match, due to its triple threat nature, was a no-disqualification match, and Dominic Mysterio took full advantage of the rule. Rusev and Penta immediately went after Dominic Mysterio. Rusev’s power was on full display, and Penta’s signature high-flying maneuver made the match all the more exciting. It was, however, Dirty Dom’s Dirty tactics that stole the show tonight.

The match turned on its head when Rusev locked Penta into an Accolade, and the latter was fading. Penta was moments away from tapping out when the bell rang. Rusev released the hold, believing he won, only to realize that it was Dominic Mysterio’s dirty tactics to make him break the hold. An enraged Rusev chased Dominic Mysterio outside the ring and allowed Dirty Dom to send him into the steel steps.

A furious Penta grabbed the hammer to his Dominic Mysterio, but the latter sidestepped and Penta hit Rusev instead. Dominic Mysterio quickly took advantage and sent Penta into the ringpost. Dominic Mysterio then climbed the third rope and delivered a Frog Splash to an already dazed Rusev to secure a pinfall victory over him and retain his title.

Dominic Mysterio once again proved that while he may not possess the physical strength of Rusev or the agility of Penta, he has the cunning of a fox and the inherent dirty tactics reminiscent of the late Eddie Guerrero. These qualities have significantly contributed to his impressive 182-day title reign.
