Achraf Hakimi’s journey to this point in his career has been a resilient one. Born in Madrid to Moroccan parents, he began his career at one of the biggest clubs in the world – Real Madrid. Even though he had to move on from such a big club, he eventually became a key figure in European football. 

He started his career with very limited opportunities at Real Madrid. However, from there, he earned his place in starring roles at Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Hakimi’s ascent to this point has been one of consistent growth and significant achievements. 

Did Achraf Hakimi Play for Inter Milan?

Hakimi joined Inter Milan in 2020 on a five-year deal worth €40 million. Under Antonio Conte, he became a vital part of the squad. He contributed 7 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances. His performances were actually instrumental in Inter clinching their first Serie A title in over a decade during the 2020-21 season. Even so, his stay at the club became brief.

Has Hakimi Played for Real Madrid?

Hakimi began his professional career with Real Madrid. He made a total of 17 appearances for the club across all competitions. He showed potential, but with a squad full of stars, he found limited playing time. This led to a two-year loan for the player to Borussia Dortmund in 2018. When he returned back to Madrid, he declined a contract extension. He rather opted to transfer to Inter Milan in search of regular first-team football.

Achraf Hakimi’s Clubs Played For

  • Real Madrid (2017–2018): 17 appearances, 2 goals.
  • Borussia Dortmund (2018–2020, loan): 73 appearances, 12 goals, 17 assists; won the German Super Cup.
  • Inter Milan (2020–2021): 45 appearances, 7 goals, 11 assists; won Serie A.
  • Paris Saint-Germain (2021–Present): 132 appearances, 16 goals, 22 assists; won Ligue 1 three times, French Cup, and two French Super Cups.  

In the 2024/25 season, Hakimi has been pivotal for PSG, averaging a 7.47 rating over 15 appearances, with 3 goals and 4 assists.  

Achraf Hakimi’s National Team Career

Hakimi debuted for Morocco’s senior team in 2016 and has since earned over 60 caps. He played in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. The highlight of his time with his national team came in the 2022 World Cup when Morocco reached the semi-finals. It was a first for an African nation. Notably, he scored the decisive penalty against Spain in the Round of 16.

In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he scored in a group stage draw against DR Congo.  Additionally, he captained Morocco’s Olympic team in 2024, leading them to a bronze medal with notable performances against Iraq, the USA, and Egypt.  

Hakimi’s consistent excellence has earned him spots in the CAF Team of the Year in both 2019 and 2023. His career trajectory from a promising talent at Real Madrid to a world-class right-back at PSG and Morocco has been a significant and inspirational one.
