How Paris Saint-Germain Defied the Odds to Claim European Glory
Paris Saint-Germain secured a comfortable 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UCL 2024/25 finals in Munch. Going ahead in under 15 minutes thanks to the Achraf Hakimi goal, the Parisians never looked in doubt about winning the contest. It went from bad to worse for the Italian side as Desire Doue’s shot deflected past Yan Sommer giving PSG a two-goal cushion going into the second half.
Doue coming in at the hour mark sealed the deal for PSG finishing a team effort making it 3-0 PSG. The 19-year-old bagged a brace in the Champions League final as he made the headlines from Munich.
The Parisians were not done yet as Dembele set Kvicha Kvaratskhelia on a quick counter to make it 4-0 on the night. Things went glorious to celebratory as the 18-year-old born and raised PSG player Senny Mayulu scored the historic fifth goal of the game. The 5-0 win of PSG means they have the record of the win by the highest margin in a UCL final. Breaking the previous record of Real Madrid who won 4-0 against Frankfurt.
Despite some sparkling efforts by Inter Milan, Simone Inzaghi’s side was kept well outside the PSG box. Keeping their afterburners on, PSG’s players like Ousmane Dembele and Kvicha Kvharatskhelia kept a constant threat on Inter’s defence. Enrique became the first manager to guide PSG to a European trophy as he lifted the second UCL prize of his career.

Starting the group stage shakily, the team finished 15th in the league phase. A critical 2-0 deficit at home to Manchester City on Matchday 7 threatened elimination. Yet, PSG’s turnaround was nothing short of redemption. The French giants also defeated four Premier League clubs—Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal—en route to the final.
After clinching the Ligue 1 2024/25 being unbeaten in April, PSG has been one of the best sides since the start of 2025. Ousmane Dembele has contributed to almost every UCL knockout game as he guided PSG to their first-ever Champions League trophy.
PSG’s 2024-25 Champions League campaign reached its crucial moment during their Matchday 7 clash against Manchester City. They switched gears after that game as the Parisians never looked back from thereon.
Beating Liverpool in a nervy penalty shootout and just getting par against Aston Villa, the French side was conditioned to be in the finals against Inter Milan. Each win showcased their tactical evolution under Enrique as players like Dembele and Hakimi have flourished under the Spanish manager.
PSG goes down as a prime example of football requiring a proper system to win big prizes. Competing year in and year out, the French side came near the prize on multiple occasions previously. Missing out on the trophy with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe back in 2020, the French Giants finally have their name engraved on the UCL Trophy.
Enrique building a system after being given the proper players to compete had done a brilliant job. With the young side achieving possibly the greatest club prize, PSG sent out a message to the football world. Having secured most of their youngster’s future, the Parisians are set to be the troublemakers for the coming years.
