What Happened to Luis Enrique Daughter? His Silent Tribute to Xana After PSG Win Champions League Final

As PSG Celebrate Champions League Title Win, Luis Enrique’s Tribute to His Daughter Adds a Poignant Layer.

Paris Saint-Germain have won their maiden UEFA Champions League title. While the game held immense importance, it was extremely crucial for the PSG head coach, Luis Enrique, too. He had planned this moment for a long time and after today’s win, he fulfilled it.

It has been six long years since the Spanish manager lost his beloved daughter Xana. For Enrique, a win against Inter in Munich has been much more than just the game. It has been extremely personal and emotional for him as well.

What Happened to Luis Enrique’s Daughter, Xana?

Back in August 2019, Luis Enrique stepped down from his post as the head coach of the Spanish National Team to remain with his young daughter Xana. The young girl had contracted a rare form of highly aggressive bone cancer, which unfortunately took her life at the tender age of 9 years, just 5 months after contracting the disease.

The Spanish manager was extremely heartbroken at the sudden passing of his beloved daughter. He said, “My daughter came to live with us for nine wonderful years. We have a thousand memories of her… Xana is still watching us.”

How Did Lucho Honour Her After PSG Won the Champions League?

Luis Enrique has previously won the UEFA Champions League for Barcelona when he guided the Blaugrana to the finals back in 2015. The former La Roja manager planned to honor his daughter after he won the trophy again with PSG and he did exactly that. He quickly went and changed into a T-shirt with a picture depicting his daughter planting a PSG flag.

“I have an amazing photo of her, planting a Barcelona flag into the turf,” he told Clarin. The proud father was desperate to recreate the same things after PS’s win in the Champions League final. However, this time he would obviously keep a PSG flag on the turf.
“My daughter won’t be there physically, but she’ll be there spiritually, and that’s very important to me,” he said earlier this year.
