Devin White released by the Eagles: Possible landing spots for the former Pro-Bowler

The Philadelphia Eagles decided to part ways with one of their 2024 free agents, linebacker Devin White, on Tuesday.

White, originally drafted fifth overall and a Pro Bowler in 2021, helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win a Super Bowl after the 2020 season. That same year, he also earned a second-team All-Pro selection.

Over his five years with the Buccaneers, Devin White racked up 566 tackles, 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, and three interceptions. However, he hasn’t yet played in his sixth NFL season.

Though White may not be performing at the same level as he did earlier in his career, there’s still a good chance another NFL team will pick him up. Here’s a look at five teams that could use his skills right now:

New York Jets

The Jets seem like a logical fit, especially with C.J. Mosley sidelined for three games due to a toe injury. Given owner Woody Johnson’s decision to fire Robert Saleh on Tuesday, it’s clear the team is in “win-now” mode. Signing White could align perfectly with that mindset.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco has faced several injuries in their linebacker corps this season, so bringing White into the mix could provide a much-needed boost. Even if he initially joins as a practice squad player while the defense heals up, it’s a practical move that could benefit both White and the 49ers.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers suffered a major setback losing linebacker Shaq Thompson for the season, and they’re also dealing with injuries to Josey Jewell. While the defense hasn’t been performing well, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero might be able to get strong performances out of White. Plus, head coach Dave Canales knows White from their time together in Tampa Bay back in 2023. If White is looking for meaningful playing time, Carolina could be a solid option.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Could a return to Tampa be in the cards? The Buccaneers recently placed linebacker SirVocea Dennis on injured reserve, so they have a need. Unlike other teams, White is already familiar with Tampa’s defensive system, so he wouldn’t need much time to adapt.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are currently facing a gap at linebacker with Alex Singleton out. While White would need some time to adjust to Denver’s scheme, he could initially start on the practice squad. For a 3-2 team looking to build momentum, adding an experienced player like White might be a smart move after losing Singleton. He could be just what they need.
