UFC legend Demetrious Johnson turns a playful sparring session into a highlight-reel moment after his opponent crosses the line!
Retirement doesn’t mean you forget how to fight, especially when you are Demetrious Johnson! The former UFC flyweight champion has been enjoying life after competition since hanging up his gloves in September 2024. He retired as arguably the GOAt in MMA history, with 11 consecutive title defenses. His technical skills and fight IQ were legendary throughout his career, but lately he’s been more focused on helping others improve their craft rather than showcasing his own.
Johnson has been spending time working with street fighters from the viral Streetbeefs platform. He is trying to pass along some of his vast knowledge to fighters who learned their skills in parking lots and backyards rather than professional gyms. But as one cocky street fighter recently learned, there’s a big difference between sparring with a retired champion and actually trying to provoke one.
The sparring session started innocently enough between Johnson and a street fighter known as ‘Winged C.’ Johnson was clearly taking it easy, covering up and moving around while his opponent got some work in. But Winged C apparently didn’t understand the unwritten rules of respectful sparring. Instead of appreciating the opportunity to train with one of the sport’s all time greats, he started running his mouth and trying to goad Johnson into a real scrap.
He kept telling his live stream audience to make Johnson “hit harder” and started calling the 38 year old legend “good boy” like he was talking to a pet. The disrespect was obvious, and anyone who knows Johnson’s career could probably guess this wasn’t going to end well.
Johnson showed incredible patience for most of the round, not taking the bait. But with just seconds left on the clock, something finally snapped. Maybe it was the constant “good boy” comments, or maybe it was just the overall lack of respect being shown. Either way, Johnson decided it was time to remind his sparring partner exactly who he was dealing with.

The head kick that followed was a thing of beauty. It was perfectly timed, technically sound, and delivered with just enough force to send a clear message. Winged C hit the canvas immediately, and the cocky attitude disappeared just as quickly. His technique remained flawless even in retirement, and his timing was still absolutely perfect.
The incident serves as a perfect example of why you should never disrespect a legend, even one who’s trying to help you improve. Winged C learned that lesson the hard way, and hopefully other street fighters will remember this moment before they decide to test a former UFC champion’s patience.
