Deion Sanders Denies Guiding Shedeur to Specific NFL Team

Texas born Shedeur Sanders has emerged as one of the most electrifying talents going into the 2025 NFL draft. He is the youngest son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who has carved out his own path in the football world by showcasing his excellent quarterback skills and poise. A four-star recruit who initially had committed to Florida Atlantic before joining his father at Jackson State in 2021, after Deion was named the head coach. While playing for Jackson State for two years, Shedeur accumulated 6983 passing yards, 70 passing touchdowns, and 9 rushing touchdowns which earned him the 2021 Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman and the 2022 Deacon Jones Trophy as the best HBCU player.

In 2023, he transferred to Colorado along with his father Deion, who transformed the Buffaloes. Sanders threw for 7364 passing yards, 64 passing touchdowns, and 8 rushing touchdowns across two seasons. The team went 9-4 in in 2024 and Sanders finished the year ranking 8th for the Heisman Trophy. If there was ever any doubt, his play last season firmly secured himself as one of the top players in the 2025 draft and the question that arises with that is who will pick him up in the 2025 draft?

Previously Sanders’ father had stated that there were some teams that he wouldn’t want Shedeur to play for in the NFL. However, Sanders recently switched up and claimed that he has no hand in where his son plays in the NFL. So let us take a look at what Deion had to say about Shedeur’s NFL future.

Deion Sanders Is Not Trying To Shape Shedeur’s Destiny Going Into the NFL Draft

Deion Sanders talked to Skip Bayless on his show and said he is not going to tell his son to go to a specific team to play for in the NFL. Sanders said “No. Because that’s not God’s will right now. I want Shedeur to do what he’s consistently done – Excel against all odds.”

Sanders had also mentioned that he would be happy wherever Shedeur is selected in the 2025 NFL draft. Deion said “If it’s New York, it’s New York, if it’s Tennessee, if it’s Cleveland, if it’s still the Raiders, if it’s New Orleans, if it’s any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I’m happy with it, man. Because I know what he’s going to do to the organization.”

Deion’s opinion has changed since the last time. Prior to that he had previously said “There’s certain cities that ain’t going to happen. It’s going to be an Eli.” He had also mentioned that he didn’t want Shedeur to play in the more colder cities and said “I don’t want my kid going nowhere cold next year.”

No matter which team drafts Sanders, we are all rooting for him and hoping that he blossoms into the next big quarterback in the NFL. Sanders could be the second pick in the 2025 NFL draft and that means he’ll play for the Browns next season, according to the latest NFL Mock Draft.
