Carvajal Addresses Alexander-Arnold’s Arrival: A New Era for Real Madrid’s Defense

Dani Carvajal might have just confirmed the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, calling it ‘not official yet’. With the Englishman arriving at the right-back spot, a competitive rivalry between the Spanish veteran and Alexander-Arnold could be termed healthy.

Following the struggling defensive line due to injuries, the arrival of TAA will provide the depth required for modern football. Carvajal, commenting on the competition, expressed that he feels no insecurity in the position as he looks on to pushing each other in the Spanish Capital.

‘We Will Be Teammates’ – Dani Carvajal On Sharing The Right-Back Position At Real Madrid

Carvajal is one of the most experienced players at Real Madrid. Lifting several trophies, the Spaniard is a strong pillar at the Bernabeu since the Zidane era. Having the old-school feel to his gameplay, Carvajal is easily among the top right-backs of the century defensively.

Following the rumours of Alexander-Arnold arriving at Real Madrid, Carvajal called the situation almost a done deal. Talking about the nature of the competition from the upcoming season, the 33-year-old said

“Competition with Trent? Yes, that’s clear. It’s not official yet, but it looks like it!”.

“Fear? No, there is no fear here. We will be teammates. The competition will strengthen both of us and will bring out our best”.

Lucas Vasquez, who served as the right-back option for the past decade, is speculated to exit Real Madrid at the end of the season. With Alexander-Arnold’s transfer in order, the Los Blancos would have to see their veteran player depart for breathing space for the new signings and the right flank defensively.

Carvajal and Alexander-Arnold possess different features in their game, making them a versatile duo. While the Liverpool man is known for his exquisite passing and vision, Carvajal is regarded as the old-school blocker of the ball who can burst forward. Alexander-Arnold has played most of his football in an attacking scheme for Liverpool, as he will face new challenges given the nature of La Liga.

Speaking on the comparison of the right-backs, former Spanish defender Alvaro Benito told SI: “Dani Carvajal is much better defensively. If Carvajal is fit, I can’t imagine him as a starter for Real Madrid… not even as a left-back.” Alexander-Arnold, who is being questioned for his defensive attributes, will be expected to adjust to the Madrid tactics as he focuses on providing for the fierce front line.

With the transfer looking just around the corner, Liverpool fans have expressed strong disagreement with the fullback’s decision. The 26-year-old who stepped up as a Reds player at the age of six will take the bold decision to join Real Madrid, joining David Beckham and Jude Bellingham on the bound to Los Blancos from England.
