The Cowboys' reliance on Dak Prescott is clear after a lopsided defeat to the Eagles, casting doubts on their season outlook
Following the humiliating 34-6 defeat at home yesterday against their despised divisional foes, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys proved that “America’s Team” truly depends on Dak Prescott.
Although Prescott was experiencing an average season before his injury, the team appeared completely hopeless without him, and their future looks bleak since only two of their last eight games seem likely to be victories (Panthers and Giants).
Following the defeat, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed reporters regarding the team’s condition and Dak’s significance, particularly given that the Cowboys could only score six points and amassed just 146 TOTAL yards! Jones said: “you’ve got the same arithmetic as I do? we only won three games with Dak”
He also recognized that Cooper Rush performed better than he appeared yesterday, crediting the subpar showing to the Eagles’ solid defensive play.
Jones’ remarks imply he might feel remorse over his decision on the season’s opening Sunday to extend Dak Prescott’s contract, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Among the three victories they’ve achieved, only one can be deemed noteworthy—the Sunday night triumph against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who still had Justin Fields as their quarterback. If they had gone up against Russell Wilson, who is currently 3-0 this season, they likely would have been defeated.
The remaining two victories occurred in Week 1 versus the Cleveland Browns. This team has managed only two wins this year, and against the New York Giants, Prescott has consistently defeated with 13 consecutive wins.
At this stage, we can almost eliminate the Cowboys from playoff contention, as it appears extremely unlikely for them to move forward. It would benefit them to lose intentionally to obtain a high draft pick and acquire a solid running back or wide receiver, as this offense appears weak.
With Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb secured for the next four years, the Cowboys must add another offensive playmaker. That decision will rest with Jerry Jones and the new head coach since Mike McCarthy’s contract ends this year and probably won’t be extended.
CeeDee Lamb expressed frustration over missing a pass due to the sun during an incomplete play that prevented Dallas from achieving a go-ahead touchdown in the first half of a 34-6 defeat against Philadelphia on Sunday.
“I couldn’t see the ball. Couldn’t see the ball, at all. The sun,” said Lamb, who ended a preseason-long holdout by signing a $136 million, four-year contract extension in late August.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was annoyed that the sun was raised again as a concern in his $1.2 billion retractable roof facility, which features glass doors at both ends.
AT&T Stadium features an uncommon east-west orientation from end zone to end zone, in contrast to the typical north-south setup of most venues. During the first half of afternoon games, the sun illuminates the west-facing windows on clear days.
Lamb, the All-Pro receiver for Dallas, was staring into the sun during the second quarter while open on a crossing route in the end zone when a pass from Cooper Rush sailed behind him, and he failed to adjust to the ball.
Lamb subsequently gestured towards his eyes and made similar movements on the sideline during yet another disappointing home defeat for the Cowboys (3-6), who are experiencing a four-game losing streak and are 0-4 at AT&T Stadium.
It has been proposed numerous times, yet Jones has consistently dismissed it. The 82-year-old billionaire furiously dismissed it after raising the topic unsolicited during his postgame discussion with reporters.
“By the way, we know where the sun is going to be when we flip the coin, so we do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium, Let’s just tear the damn stadium down and build another one. Are you kidding me?” : Jones said.
