Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre in the most brutal and dramatic encounter at Saturday Night’s Main Event to retain his Undisputed WWE Championship. The match was so intense that it drained both superstars of their last bit of strength.

The kick-off event of SNME was a match where the champion, Cody Rhodes, didn’t have any advantage. The stipulation that Cody Rhodes would lose his title in case he is counted out or disqualified added certain spice to it. This rule was the center point as Drew McIntyre tried to force the champion to snap and get disqualified or counted out.

Cody Rhodes Uses His Championship Belt to Secure Victory

The match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre was filled with drama as the latter utilized the unique stipulation from the word go. There were multiple attempts where he tried to get Cody Rhodes counted out or disqualified. Drew McIntyre maintained his dominance and sent Cody Rhodes crashing through the announce table. The champion narrowly escaped getting counted out and losing his title.

Drew McIntye then brought the championship belt inside the ring, tempting Cody Rhodes to use it. Cody Rhodes tossed the belt towards the referee, and Drew McIntyre took advantage of the distraction by delivering a Claymore for a near-fall.

The match ended when the referee was caught in the middle of the fight and knocked out. With the referee out cold for a moment, Cody Rhodes took advantage and hit a DDT that drove Drew McIntyre’s head onto the Championship belt. He immediately followed it up with a Cross Rhodes to secure a pinfall victory over Drew McIntyre.

Cody Rhodes And Drew McIntyre’s Rivalry is Far From Over

Cody Rhodes might have extended his reign, but the controversial finish suggests Drew McIntyre’s conquest is far from over. The title would have belonged to Drew McIntyre had all this happened in front of the referee, and this will be the driver of their rivalry in the future.
