Cody Rhodes Injury Update: What happened to Cody Rhodes?

The American Nightmare facing the aftermath of being in the ring with a deranged Kevin Owens.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens were on instant kill mode when they met at the 2025 Royal Rumble. The two have had quite a history and their hatred for one another was apparent in their offenses toward the other. They fought in a ladder match for the WWE Undisputed Championship but their primary motive was to hurt the other.

The former friends turned foes when Cody Rhodes teamed up with Roman Reigns at Badblood. K.O. blamed him for teaming up with someone who tried to end his career. K.O. attacked him backstage and Randy Orton who tried to become a mediator. The issue escalated further when Kevin Owens delivered a banned Package Piledriver to Randy. K.O. has been trying to deliver a Package Piledriver to every superstar he met but Cody Rhodes stopped him. K.O. has only succeeded in performing the banned Piledriver to Cody Rhodes after Randy.

What happened to Cody Rhodes?

Cody Rhodes is dealing with multiple injuries he sustained in a ladder match against Kevin Owens. These injuries were severe enough to stop him from addressing the media after his victory. Cody Rhodes faced the wrath of a deranged Kevin Owens. He defended his title against him but wasn’t able to save himself from getting brutalized by K.O. WWE is yet to disclose the extent of injuries.

Kevin Owen dominated the match most of the match. At one point, he delivered a Fisherman Buster to American Nightmare on the Ladder. The impact was so gruesome that officials had to intervene and check whether the match could continue. Sami was by the ringside to check on both his friends. The match continued and Cody Rhodes snapped.

K.O. tried to deliver Package Piledriver to Cody on the announcer’s table but Cody countered and delivered an Alabama Slam to him through the ladder. The impact broke the ladder in half. Officials checked on him but it was all but Kevin Owens remained unmoved. The American Nightmare climbed the ladder and pulled both belts out to win the match.

When will Cody Rhodes be back?

Cody Rhodes is scheduled to appear later on SmackDown. He is scheduled to tour across the USA and Canada as WWE Undisputed Champion. It will be interesting to see whether he would be clear to compete in the ring immediately.
