Gauff captures her 11th career title and ninth straight hard-court final win at Wuhan Open 2025.
Coco Gauff capped off the Asian swing in emphatic style, defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 on Sunday to win the Wuhan Open 2025. The world No. 3 claimed her 11th career singles title, the second of the season, and the first since Roland-Garros, cementing her status as the top-ranked U.S. player and a leading contender heading into the WTA Finals in November.

Gauff’s victory in Wuhan carried echoes of dominance not seen since Serena Williams’ prime. The 21-year-old became the first woman in the Open Era to win her first nine hard-court finals and the first to capture nine consecutive hard-court titles since Williams’ 12-match streak between the 2013 US Open and the 2015 Cincinnati Masters.
Her Wuhan campaign was nothing short of ruthless. Gauff dropped just 25 games all tournament, the fewest by any champion since the event’s inception in 2014. She also collected her 32nd career Top 10 win, extending her surge on the surface, where she now stands unbeaten in nine finals.

While the scoreline may suggest a tight contest, Gauff’s statistics tell a story of sustained control. She won 74% of her first serves, saved five of nine break points, and converted six of eight on return. Her composure in key moments proved decisive, particularly late in the second set when she broke Pegula at 5-5 and sealed the title after 1 hour and 48 minutes.
For Pegula, the result marked her second straight runner-up finish on Chinese soil after reaching the semifinals in Beijing earlier this month. Despite producing four aces and maintaining a 65% first-serve success rate, she couldn’t match Gauff’s consistency from the baseline or her return precision.

With this triumph, Gauff not only adds another prestigious WTA 1000 title to her growing resume but also solidifies her position as one of the most dominant hard-court players of her generation. Heading into the WTA Finals, she carries momentum, confidence, and the aura of a player rewriting the record books, one final at a time.

I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
