On Sunday, 03/02, the Cleveland Cavaliers (49-10) will host the Portland Trail Blazers (27-33) in an inter-conference Regular-Season match-up. The Cavaliers have the best record in the league, while the Trail Blazers have jumped to the 12th spot in the West. Will the Cavs steamroll their way yet again? Read about the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
Cavaliers: Showing no mercy
The Cavaliers come into this game after a stellar 7-point win against the Boston Celtics behind a 41-point outburst by Donovan Mitchell. The team trailed by as much as 22 points in the first quarter but stormed their way back emphatically. It sums up the heart and hustle the squad has shown all season long. They are currently on a nine-game winning streak and compiled 126 PPG(2nd) in February, nailing 16.6 triples per game(2nd) on a mind-boggling 41% clip(1st). Meanwhile, they gave up just 111.1 PPG(tied for 10th), which sums up their brilliant form this season.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Darius Garland | SG: Donovan Mitchell | SG/SF: Max Strus | PF: Evan Mobley | C: Jarrett Allen
Injuries: No injuries to report
Trail Blazers: Exceeded expectations
The Trail Blazers enter the affair after an impressive 19-point win against the Brooklyn Nets as Shaedon Sharpe weaved 25 points. This was their fourth straight win, but all the victories came against the worst teams in the league. Before that, they had lost four in a row against high-quality squads. But it’d be a disservice to them if they are not praised as a team that was expected to be among the bottom-five squads. It is impressive that they still have a chance to crack the code to the play-in tournament.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG/SG: Anfernee Simons | SG/SF: Toumani Camara | SF: Deni Advija | PF: Jerami Grant | C: Donovan Clingan
Injuries: Justin Minaya, Deandre Ayton, Matisse Thybulle, and Robert Williams III are OUT.
The Cavs are the epitome of scoring efficiency and regularly break the 120-point barrier. Such scoring feats aren’t routine for the Blazers, but they have scored 120+ in three of the last four games. However, these performances came against struggling squads, and the Trail Blazers are usually held under 120 by tough defenses. However, overall, this one can be a high-scoring affair, and I expect a total of at least 240.
Projected Predictions:
Donovan Mitchell to score at least 28 points: The Cavs guard notched 25.8 PPG in February, an uptick from his season average of 24.3 PPG. Mitchell scored 27 or more in five games during the month. I expect him to be in the 29-34 points range here.
Evan Mobley to grab at least 11 rebounds: Mobley collected 10.1 rebounds per game in February, grabbing double-digit rebounds in six games. I expect him to get in the 11-14 rebounds range here.
Sheadon Sharpe to be held under 17 points: Sharpe has scored 20 or more in three of the last four games. However, I see him being held in the 11-15 points range here.
Anfernee Simons to make over 3 triples: The sharpshooting guard nailed 3.1 triples per game in February. He made more than 3 deep-range shots just three times in February, but I expect him to nail 4-5 triples in this game.
The Cavaliers have been unstoppable throughout the season and are the favorite to win in 95% of the games, at least. It is clearly the case in this match-up as well, despite the Trail Blazers’ resilient play. The visitors are completely overmatched at every position. I will be surprised if the Cavaliers don’t win by at least 13 points.
