The bar has been set so high by World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, that even a month without a title seems like a drought. The 22-year-old has captured eight trophies this year – including two Grand Slams in Paris and New York. Currently a six-time major champion, he has a record of 68-8 so far. Between April and September, Alcaraz went on a run of nine straight finals. In the opening match-up here in Turin, the Spaniard defeated Alex de Minaur 7-6(5) 6-2.

Merely five spots behind Alcaraz in the ATP Rankings, Taylor Fritz found his groove in the second half of the season. The World No. 6 typically comes alive during the North American hard court swing and onwards, with 2025 being no different. At the age of 28, Fritz continues to grow and impress with two titles, one final and three semifinals across the campaign. The American beat home favorite Lorenzo Musetti with a comfortable 6-3 6-4 scoreline in his opener.

Alcaraz looked like he was back in form against de Minaur on Sunday. The top seed had his footwork back on track, and took the ball early to prevent his counterpart from gathering any momentum. Against Fritz, staying on the front foot and playing first strike tennis will be of utmost importance. From the American’s point of view, staying strong on serve would mean that Alcaraz will need to rely on his baseline attacks to outhit Fritz. On an indoor hard court, too much variety and lack of concentration could prove fatal for either player.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz in three sets.
