Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United: Deal in Final Stages as Transfer Nears Completion

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, with the deal now in its final stages. The Cameroon international is set to become United’s second signing of the summer, following the recent arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

United have been pursuing the 25-year-old winger since the start of June after Mbeumo expressed a clear desire to join the club, turning down interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Newcastle United. Despite strong early competition, including a serious push from Newcastle, the winger’s wage demands and Brentford’s steep asking price saw rivals cool their pursuit—opening the door for United to take control of negotiations.

Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, emerged as a top target for Erik ten Hag’s side, especially as the club looks to reinvigorate its attack following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. United’s opening bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected earlier this month, but the two clubs have continued discussions.

A revised offer is now expected to be worth £55 million up front, with a further £8 million in performance-based add-ons, bringing the potential total fee to £63 million. This could see Mbeumo’s transfer exceed the £62.5 million paid to Wolverhampton Wanderers for Cunha, making him United’s most expensive signing of the window so far.

Financial Pressure Remains Despite Ambitious Moves

Despite missing out on European qualification, Manchester United have taken an aggressive approach in the market. Their combined spending on Cunha and Mbeumo will push their summer outlay past £120 million—this, despite financial limitations due to the loss of matchday revenue from the lack of continental football.

The club’s latest financial report showed signs of recovery, even after widespread cost-cutting measures including over 450 staff redundancies.
