From Championship Glory to Premier League Relegation: The Rise and Fall Under Van Nistelrooy

Leicester City and Ruud van Nistlerooy have decided to part ways with each other after a disappointing 2024/25 season. Failing to stay in the top flight, the Dutch manager is reportedly asked to leave the club with mutual consent.

Van Nistlerooy taking over from Steve Cooper in November 2024 will leave the Foxes just months into the job. Leicester City announcing the departure of Nistlerooy expressed their gratitude towards the great striker as they look for some fresh faces under the management in the coming season.

A Season to Forget: Van Nistelrooy’s Record at Leicester

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tenure at Leicester City will be remembered as a nightmare by fans and analysts alike. Joining as the successor to Steve Cooper, the former Manchester United striker managed just five wins in 27 Premier League matches

This poor record translates to a win percentage of approximately 18.5%, a statistic that underscores the challenges he faced in keeping Leicester competitive. Moreover, Leicester became the first club in the top-flight to go nine games without scoring at home. The team finished a surprising 10 points adrift of safety resulting in an exit from the Premier League.

Departures by Mutual Consent

As per the reports, Dutch striker Van Nistelrooy and Leicester City have parted ways on mutual consent. Failing to leave any kind of remark at the club, the 48-year-old will bid farewell to the Foxes effectively.

In a statement, Leicester City expressed gratitude for Van Nistelrooy’s professionalism and dedication. The club noted, “Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims.”

Leicester City back in the Championship just after a season of promotion will look for a new manager. Among the many names, Sean Dyche has emerged as the favourite candidate to lead the Foxes in the 2025/26 season.

Besides Dyche, Danny Rohl is also being circulated as a potential candidate to replace Nistelrooy. As the tension rises, fans will be eager to see who can lead the team back to the Premier League.
