Brayden Schenn Trade Rumors – Blues Captain Could Be On the Move This Offseason

Devavrat Kulkarni

Could the Blues trade their captain this offseason?

St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn is back in the rumor mill for a trade this offseason. The Blues were already looking at options during the trade deadline, and the news was that two teams, the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs, were quite interested. However, the center has a full no-trade clause and wanted to remain in St. Louis, which allowed him to continue playing for the Blues.

Following the trade rumors, Schenn actually improved his performance and even led the Blues to the playoffs, where they are just coming off a tough 4-3 series loss in the first round against the Winnipeg Jets. However, now that the Blues’ season is over, the speculation of trading Schenn seems to have risen yet again.

Will the Blues Trade Schenn This Offseason?

Blues’ General Manager Doug Armstrong will have some key decisions to make in this regard, especially given that St. Louis may be looking at reshaping its roster. On July 1, Schenn’s full no-trade clause will be modified, and he will be able to veto only 15 teams, providing Armstrong much more freedom to explore with, should any teams be interested.

Currently, Schenn’s contract still has three more years remaining, during which he will be earning $6.5 million annually. St. Louis now has to decide whether or not it wants to move on from one of their more productive players with leadership qualities.

If they are willing to consider reshaping the roster, there may be many more key decisions to consider on how they would like to tackle other players, such as Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Holloway, and Philip Broberg, for instance.

I am a content writer for the NFL team. I joined The Playoffs recently at the beginning of February after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. However, this is a career change for me as previously I used to be a French to English translator. I started out in the sports media field because of two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis as well as my passion for writing. I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unites and entertains like nothing else!
