Borussia Dortmund Triumphs Over Monterrey 2-1 in FIFA Club World Cup Knockout Stage

Bundesliga Giants Borussia Dortmund booked their spot in the final eight of the Club World Cup 2025 on Tuesday. Defeating the Mexican side Monterrey 2-1, Serhou Guirassy bagged a brace at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Scoring both goals in the first half, BVB conceded early in the second half. While it was a tight and tense end to the game, Niko Kovac’s side managed just enough for them to get through to the later stages of the FIFA tournament.

Player of the Match – Serhou Guirassy Shines

Serhou Guirassy proved to be the hero for Borussia Dortmund, leading them to a 2-1 victory over Monterrey. The striker netted two crucial goals in the 24th and 14th minutes, showcasing his clinical finishing and setting the tone for BVB’s dominance.

His brace not only secured the win but also earned him the prestigious Player of the Match title, underscored by an impressive 8.5 rating. The Guinean International has three goals in the CWC 2025 so far.

Guirassy has had a breakout year after leading the UCL 2024/25 top-scorer list and scoring crucial goals all season. His performance highlighted his growing importance to the team and boosted Dortmund’s confidence as they advanced in the tournament.

Other than Guirassy, Karim Adeyemi and Pascal Groß also had decent days at the office. However, Jobe Bellingham on receiving a yellow card will miss out on the Club World Cup 2925 quarter-finals.

BVB keep their undefeated record in the Club World Cup 2025. Advancing to the final eight, Kovac and his side haven’t lost since April 2025. Facing Real Madrid next, the Borussia side will be put to their biggest test as they aim for a seminal final spot.
