Belal Muhammad Injury Update – Former Welterweight champion suffer split lip and facial fractures at UFC 315

Belal Muhammad faced Jack Della Maddalena for the welterweight title, and while the fight was extremely entertaining for us fans, the former welterweight champ took quite a lot of punishment, even if he wasn’t finished in the end. Midway through the fight Belal was cut open, and by the end of the fight, Muhammad’s face was bloody, with a lot of cuts and open wounds on his face. Maddalena landed a total of 200 shots on his opponent, while landing 178 as significant strikes. Meanwhile Muhammad landed 155 total strikes of which 132 were significant. It was one of the best fights we’ve witnessed in recent memory, and despite the loss Muhammad gave the fans an absolute show, leaving it all out in the octagon.

While Belal landed more head shots on his opponent (119-113), the former champ took even more damage to his face, showcasing how deadly the Aussie’s strikes and power really are. After the fight it was determined that Muhammad had suffered multiple injuries on his face, and we’ll take a look at all of his injuries and what is the expected recovery timeline for Muhammad. Belal Muhammad Lip Injury – How Long Will Belal Muhammad Be Out For?

After losing his welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 on May 10, 2025, Muhammad sustained severe injuries. UFC President Dana White revealed Muhammad suffered a split lip which will require surgery, a broken nose, an a broken orbital bone. These injuries, detailed in a post-fight Instagram story, left Muhammad’s face heavily damaged following the five-round war.

These severe injuries likely means a long road to recovery, with no official medical suspension timeline released yet. Despite the gruesome punishment that he took, Muhammad remained resilient as he posted a tweet on X which said, “Allah’s plan is the best plan,” signalling his intent to return.
