Saturday marked the start of the 2025 season of Formula 1 at Australian GP

The Formula 1 season has officially started in 2025. The Australian Grand Prix 2025 Qualifying was held on Saturday, March 15th. The results led to some interesting revelations which substantiate the results from pre-season testing. The Australian GP qualifying has also put forward some underdogs for the 2025 season. The pole position of the race was awarded to Lando Norris who set a time of 1:15.096 in Q3. He confirmed that the pace of the McLarens, which was a big obstacle for Red Bull in 2024, has only grown better in 2025. His teammate and home hero, Piastri will lock out the front row for the McLaren at the Australian GP.

Australian Grand Prix 2025 Results

The finishing order of Q3 for the Australian Grand Prix 2025 Qualifying are as follows-

  1. Lando Norris
  2. Oscar Piastri
  3. Max Verstappen
  4. George Russell
  5. Yuki Tsunoda
  6. Alexander Albon
  7. Charles Leclerc
  8. Lewis Hamilton
  9. Pierre Gasly
  10. Carlos Sainz

Max Verstappen and George Russell were the sole drivers in Q3 from their respective team. Their rookie teammates were unable to make the cut in Q1 itself. Lawson was unable to maintain his pace during his fast lap and committed a mistake which ruined his run. Kimi Antonelli on the other hand faced loss of performance after a trip over the curbs damaged the floor of his car.

Yuki Tsunoda’s performance spike came as a pleasant shock as he completed the Top-5. The Racing Bulls managed to create a stir among the frontrunners of the grid. Ferrari faced troubles later on in Q3. Charles Leclerc could not post a good time after impressing everyone throughout the free practice. Hamilton has shown signs that he is not using his late braking techniques and trying to adapt to the Ferrari.

Williams would be pleased with their results. James Vowles explained before qualifying that he expected the drivers to make the cut in Q3 and they did. It is a positive start for Williams who had finished eighth in the constructor’s championship in the previous season. Pierre Gasly put his car in Q3 after his rookie teammate was eliminated in Q2. Gasly has demonstrated the speed and improvement in Alpine’s car in 2025.

Isack Hajdar was able to produce the best results among the rookies. He narrowly missed Q3 and will start the race 11th on the grid tomorrow. Hajdar has proved that Red Bull’s sister team has made their car better and that Tsunoda can have a reliable teammate.

Oliver Bearman was the only driver who was unable to set a time during Qualifying. Bearman had spent the last three practice sessions crashing his car. Haas managed to repair it enough but it caught up to them. The super rookie of 2024 was unable to get out of the pits. He faced a gearbox issue as soon as he started the Qualifying session. Bearman will start the race dead last on the grid.
